Insert Molding

Insert Molding

Insert molding is the process of molding plastic around a non-plastic part (insert) to create a different part or product. This method is typically used to add grips or handles to metal objects such as knife blades, tubes, or wires. However, this method can also be used for batteries, chargers, and motors.

Instead of leaving a gap in the plastic molding and attaching the metal component with adhesives or fasteners, insert molding directly molds the plastic onto the metal component to create a product with no gaps or voids. This results in a higher quality product and is more durable than using adhesives or fasteners.

In order to use insert molding, the materials to be combined must be compatible. Factors such as size, shape, melting point, and durability must all be considered before insert molding can occur. In addition, all thermoplastics experience some shrinkage once they cool down and this must be accounted for during the initial calculations of insert molding.

At Hung Kuan, our experience in both mold design and injection molding allows our clients to have peace of mind when they request our injection molding services. Our experts will analyze the materials to be molded and adjust all the parameters to ensure that the project is a success. All our services come with the guarantee of premium quality products that meet all dimensional, durability, and temperature tolerances. In addition, our ISO 9001:2008 certification ensures that all our procedures and processes follow a standardized format and are continuously improved upon through rigorous testing.
