Repair and Maintenance
Creating a molding tool for injection molding is can be an expensive investment, but with the proper maintenance and multiple production runs, the mold will pay for itself. However, even the most high quality steel alloy molds will show signs of wearing down after numerous production runs. When a mold wears down, it can cause an uneven flow of polymers and lead to product deformation or inconsistencies in production. The costs associated with this include rejected products and additional production runs in order to meet the same amount of demand.
Production failure due to improper maintenance of molds is one of the most expensive mistakes to make in plastic manufacturing. When molds begin to show signs of wearing down, the only options are to repair it, or to make a new one. Making a new mold would cost the same as having an original mold made as new metals need to be acquired and labor has to be invested into cutting the mold into the required shape.
At Hung Kuan, we have an onsite tooling department and can often repair an existing mold and bring it to the specifications required. This process can save clients thousands of dollars compared to making a whole new molding tool. Even if another injection molding company did not properly maintain a tool, or the tool was not designed properly from the start, our technicians can diagnose the current situation of the tool and give solutions on how to bring the tool up to standard.
With the experience of our technicians and our special tooling machines, most molds can be repaired to eliminate any quality issues. Our technicians have been creating and repairing molds for over 25 years and use computerized milling equipment to ensure that all specifications and tolerances are precisely met. For structural changes to the original mold (due to initial design inadequacies), we use computer aided design software to redraw the existing mold and apply updates and features as required. We then run it though simulations to ensure feasibility and product consistency.
The quality of a mold is the key to producing consistent and accurate products. By providing these solutions to enhance, repair, and remake molds, we guarantee our clients get the most value out of their investment in creating a custom mold.
